Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure intended to remove fat deposits and shape the body; although this should not be viewed as a treatment for weight loss. The only problem with this procedure is that sometimes the fat returns some time later; annoyingly, this can happen in a completely different area to where it was taken.

Tumescent and Ultrasonic are the two most commonly used methods although there are other lesser known techniques. The most modern of these techniques is Tumescent and has become one of the most commonly practiced aesthetic cosmetic procedures in America.

Fat is removed by a smaller tube and this also helps to reduce the amount of bruising that occurs with the traditional method. Virtually every patient to date has found the tumescent liposuction technique to be less painful, provides better results with more rapid healing and recovery.

Removing fat from those hard to get areas like the upper abdomen, thighs and hips is possible with ultrasonic liposuction.

During the more traditional technique it is difficult for the surgeon to see where the probe is and therefore it is possible to puncture or damage internal organs. It is always in the patient's interest to find out everything they can about the process before they commit to any cosmetic procedure.

As with any type of medical procedure, liposuction does have some risk attached although professional cosmetic surgeons take great care of their patients. In preparing for the procedure, individuals are required to undergo a series of physical examinations to determine whether or not their health is good enough to have it performed. Patients are told to keep wounds clean after the procedure and given antibiotics to avoid possible infection at this vulnerable time. Fortunately, fat removal techniques have improved a great deal in recent years.

A new procedure akin to liposuction is Lipo dissolve, which eliminates unwanted fat with a series of micro-injections into problem areas such as the neck, stomach and thighs. Because Lipo Dissolve does not cause any pain, it can be performed without the need for any anesthetic and be used with other skin treatments that do not require surgical intervention.
